About Nóirín

When Nóirín was 30 years old, she was diagnosed with leukaemia/blood cancer and had life-saving chemotherapy treatment. Nóirín developed a keen interest in patient advocacy which led her to specialise in medical negligence cases. Nóirín has a particular interest in medical negligence cases relating to misdiagnosis or late diagnosis of cancer. As Nóirín has the lived experience of illness herself, Nóirín understands what someone is going through when they face a health crisis and all of Nóirín’s clients are treated with sensitivity, empathy and respect.

Nóirín has acted for clients from all over the country in medical negligence areas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Colorectal, Urology, General Practice, Dental, Oncology, Neurology, Paediatrics, Nephrology, Cardiology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Pharmacy, Psychiatry and suspected wrongful deaths. Nóirín has concluded a high volume of investigations and settled Circuit Court and High Court medical negligence cases ranging in value from € 25,000 to almost € 2 million.

Nóirin is recognised as a local, national and international patient advocate. Nóirín trained as an Expert Patient in Medicines Research and Development in Barcelona. Nóirín was also invited by the European Medicines Agency to attend their Headquarters in Amsterdam to attend Scientific Advisory Group Meetings as a Patient Representative, is on their database as a stakeholder and is regularly called upon to review complex documentation from a patient perspective; Nóirín was invited to join a Patient Think Tank for the Asterix FP7 Project and attended meetings in Utrecht at the request of the Dutch Genetic Alliance.

Nóirín has also attended European Haematology Conference in Madrid and the European Forum on Good Clinical Practice in Brussels. Nóirín’s keen interest and knowledge of health research was recognised when she was appointed to the EME Funding Committee in the National Institute of Health Research in 2021. The EME Funding Committee assesses stage 1 and stage 2 proposals and makes funding recommendations to the Department of Health and Social Care, and the Medical Research Council.

Nóirín obtained an Entrance Exhibition Award to Trinity College Dublin. She graduated as LL.B Law Graduate (2:1) in 1999 and obtained Diplomas in Applied European Law and Employment Law from the Law Society of Ireland.
